Learn to Row

Guildford Rowing Club

Guildford Senior Learn to Row Course

Guildford Rowing Club runs an annual learn to row course for seniors for all 18 years and above who would like to learn the sport of rowing, for competition or independent leisure rowing.

The courses start in March and September and run over 6 weeks on Saturday late mornings and Wednesday evenings. Led by a team of experienced competitive rowers and coaches, the course aims to equip you with the basics of rowing (or specifically, sculling – with two oars) as a crew or independently in a stable single. We use rowing machines as part of the course to look at the rowing stroke in depth, as well as training for rowing.

Included in the course fee is a trip to Molesey Rowing Club tank, where we practise the rowing stroke in sync, in a stable setting. This is followed by a coffee, cake and conversation
afterwards in their cafe!

While one can learn the basics of rowing in a few weeks, it takes sustained effort to become a skilled rower, and we’re pleased that many of our learn to row graduates have progressed to our development and competition squads, as well as competing for the club.
